Saints look to Free Agency after losing 2 starters in season opener

Post  bulldogbully on Thu Mar 17, 2011 1:04 pm

Although the Saints managed to pull out a win in their season opener against the Vikings, they will miss 2 important contributors to the team for the remainder of the season. Starting star wide receiver Steve Smith was lost to a torn pectoral muscle after 5 receptions for 97 yards and a TD in the season opener.

Injury also fell on starting SS William Moore in the form of a torn rotator cuff leaving him sidelined for the season.

The Saints signed free agents Joey Galloway, formerly of the Tampa Bay Bucs to a 3 year deal. Galloway was released from the Bucs after suffering a quadricep injury so won't be able to contribute to the Saint's WR core for about 9 weeks (The Saints GM didn't realize this until after Galloway was signed LOL!)

Also signed out of free agency was SS Chris Reis to help depth at the SS position.
